Drug-Coated Balloon vs. Plain Angioplasty in Below-the-Knee Arterial Disease
JVIR · Meta-analysis · 2026-05
Why it matters: DCB beats plain angioplasty on patency and MAE in below-the-knee disease — but not on amputation or mortality, and CD-TLR didn't reach significance. That's a surrogate-endpoint win without a hard-endpoint win, which argues for selective use in focal, less-calcified lesions rather than as a default upgrade over PTA.

Questions, answered
What's in each brief?
The week's most relevant interventional-radiology papers from PubMed — curated, scored, and distilled into a 5-minute read. Each entry includes a plain-English "Why it matters" so you can decide whether to read the source paper.
How is the literature filtered?
Hundreds of IR-adjacent papers hit PubMed each week. We screen every one against IR procedures, patient populations, and decision points using a five-pillar scoring framework. Only the highest-scoring articles make the issue.
How is this different from Doximity or Journal Watch?
Those are built for the broad physician audience — every specialty in one feed. PubWatch is built exclusively for interventional radiology, so the signal-to-noise ratio is the whole product.
How often, and is it free?
Twice weekly — Monday and Thursday at 6am — to your inbox. Free for practicing IRs and trainees. We may eventually add a paid tier with archive search or specialty deep-dives, but the core brief stays free.
